(Very) preliminary results for the simulation of RE experiments in ASDEX Upgrade Oral

Abstract
In this short presentation, the present state of 3D ASDEX Upgrade Ar-MGI simulations with JOREK will be shown. The work eventually aims at an interpretation of the beam-formation physics differing experimentally depending on the edge safety factor q95. Some cases have completed the thermal quench (I_p spike of 10%; 80% thermal energy lost; secondary burst coming up), but it is too early to draw conclusions for RE formation. A few remarks will be made regarding the observed numerical challenges and what helped in getting over them. Some remarks will be made regarding simplifications in the modelling that can be dropped in the future. On the longer run, this work will be taken over by a master student, who will have more time to work on this than I have.
